Why do I need an oil change?
The oil is a simple, yet important part of a healthy engine. The oil acts as a lubricant for the moving parts of the engine. It keeps the metal parts from scraping together, and traps dirt that makes its way inside the engine.
What happens if I don’t change my oil?
It might be tempting to wait to change your vehicle’s oil, but if you leave it for too long it could damage your engine! If your oil goes unchanged, it will begin to lose its consistency, and offer less lubrication for the engine. These unlubricated, metal parts will begin to scrape together, generating heat. If the oil continues to go unchanged, it could turn sludge-like, which requires a thorough cleaning to fix. Or, parts of the engine like the pistons could seize.
What effects my oil quality?
If your Honda has a Maintenance Minder system, then it will tell you when it is time to change the oil. However, the general rule is to change your vehicle’s oil every 3000 miles or 3 months. If you are often driving through dusty or sandy conditions, extreme heat, or towing a trailer, your vehicle might need an oil change early. Alternatively, if your vehicle frequently sits unused, the oil won’t need to be changed as often.
