The Importance of Antifreeze

It is getting cold out there! Is your Honda ready for the chilly temperatures? One of the best way to protect your Honda from damage from the cold, is with antifreeze!

What is antifreeze?

Antifreeze is a chemical solution which lowers the freezing point of water. It is typically made with ethylene glycol. In a 50/50 solution of water and antifreeze, freezes at temperatures of -37 degrees Celsius and below.

Why use antifreeze?

Have you ever known someone whose pipes burst in the home, during the winter? Antifreeze works to prevent this same event, but in your car! Vehicles have a lot of fluids inside them, to help lubricate, cool, and maintain the engine. If the fluids inside the engine freeze, they can burst (just like the pipes in your house!). Antifreeze lowers the freezing point of fluids that it is mixed with, minimizing the risk of damage from freezing.
